Stock Upgrades: Jack in the Box Set to Jump


Wall Street ratings agencies set the tone for today's stock market.

(SONC), which ended up 4.93% on an analyst upgrade. Brown-Forman (BF.B) touched $90.50, an all-time high for the owner of Jack Daniels. Pop singer Ke$ha proudly admits to using the alcoholic drink in lieu of toothpaste but nine out of ten dentists instead advise investing in Procter & Gamble (PG) after the maker of Crest, Oral-B, and Scope advanced 1.55%. Rhode Islanders still basking in last week's Miss America win came crashing down to earth after hometown hero AT Cross (ATX) fell 4.00%. Still, the pen maker sees long-term opportunity in the endless amount of bounced checks Europeans are writing - to say nothing of replacing all those stolen Czechs their hard-up presidents pickpocket. Today in economics, April wholesale inventories are expected to increase at 10:00 a.m. Eastern. In earnings action, Duckwall-Alco Stores (DUCK), Ferrellgas Partners (FGP), KMG Chemicals (KMGB), Piedmont Natural Gas (PNY), and Rand Logistics (RLOG) are all due to release results.

Chevron (CVX): The Dow member is moved to Buy from Hold with a $120 target at Société Générale.

Airlines: Alaska Air (ALK) is upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform at Raymond James. Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (GOL), from São Paulo, gets the same increase amid lower fuel price assumptions. The price target on GOL is $6.

Allegiant Travel (ALGT): ALGT is upgraded to Strong Buy from Outperform at Raymond James.

Bon-Ton Stores (BONT): BONT is now Neutral from Underperform at Credit Suisse.

Frontier Communications (FRT): FRT is upgraded to Neutral from Underperform at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch.

Homebuilders: DR Horton (DHI) and PulteGroup (PHM) both get Buy-from-Neutral boosts at Citigroup.

Jack in the Box (JACK): JACK gets upgraded to Buy from Hold at Jefferies.

Monolithic Power (MPWR): Shares are upgraded to Buy from Hold at Stifel Nicolaus.

Nordstrom (JWN): The upscale retailer is upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Buckingham.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals (ONXX): Bank of America-Merrill Lynch lifts the stock to Buy from Neutral.

Owens Corning (OC): OC is upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Citigroup.

Pall Corp (PLL): Shares are now Neutral from Underweight at JPMorgan.

Praxair (PX): PX is upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Robert W. Baird.

WW Grainger (GWW): Shares are upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS.

Yahoo (YHOO): The stock is moved to Outperform from Market Perform at Bernstein, which says the recent deal with Alibaba reduces risks related to its Asian assets.
