New Stock Coverage: Coach Stuck in Neutral


Wall Street ratings agencies set the tone for today's stock market.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL Stocks gained for a second straight session as pending home sales and durable goods each exceeded expectations. Standout equities included British biopharmaceutical outfit Amarin (AMRN), which advanced 8.59% to a fresh 52-week peak amid high hopes for its heart medicine made from fish oil.

News Corp. (NWSA), whose British tabloids make excellent wrapping for fish and chips, added 2.53%. Meanwhile David Beckham, whose famous-for-being-famous marriage to Posh Spice has sold so many newspapers for Mr. Murdoch, got some unwelcome news. Oh well, at least spice king McCormick (MKC) gained 2.91% to an all-time high. Jeremy Lin once sold almost as many shirts as Becks but basketball Linsanity crested long ago. Even so, there were impressive net profits for Lincare Holdings (LNCR), which surged 23.40%, and Linn Energy (LINE), begun with a "buy" recommendation this morning after yesterday's 3.00% jump.

Today's earnings announcements are expected to include American Greetings (AM), Family Dollar (FDO), Nike (NKE), Research In Motion (RIMM), and Smith & Wesson (SWHC).

Angie's List (ANGI): Shares are initiated with a Market Perform at Wells Fargo.

CEMEX (CX): The stock is an Underperform at Imperial Capital, whose target is $3.50 amid exposure to Europe.

Coach (COH): Shares are a new Neutral with Wedbush.

Dolby Labs (DLB): Goldman Sachs starts Sell rated research on DLB.

Facebook (FB): The stock is an Outperform at William Blair.

Ford Motor (F): Shares are lower ahead of the open after being initiated with a Hold at Stifel Nicolaus.

Geron (GERN): GERN gets initiated with a Hold at Needham.

Ligand Pharmaceuticals (LGND): Roth Capital resumes coverage at a Buy.

Linn Energy (LINE): Shares are begun with a Buy at Ladenburg Thalmann, whose target price is $42.

NVIDIA (NVDA): NVDA is a new Neutral at Lazard.

Riverbed Technology (RVBD): The stock is a Strong Buy at Needham, whose price objective is $25.

Shuffle Master (SHFL): Shares are initiated with a Buy at Deutsche Bank.

Tech Stocks: Wells Fargo assigns Market Performs on dual Dow (^DJI) components International Business Machines (IBM) and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), along with Dell Inc. (DELL), Gartner Inc. (IT), and NetApp Inc. (NTAP). It has Outperforms on Apple Inc. (AAPL), and EMC Corp. (EMC).

Tech Stocks: Qualcomm (QCOM) and Broadcom (BRCM) are both Buys at Cantor Fitzgerald.

Teleflex (TFX): Crédit Agricole covers the company at Underperform.

Veeco Instruments (VECO): VECO is initiated with an Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley.

Veolia Environnement (VE): Shares are started with Sell at ING Group.
