New Stock Coverage: 'Liking' Facebook? Meh, Not So Much

Wall Street ratings agencies set the tone for today's stock market.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL Donna Summer and Robin Gibb, twin icons of the '70s, sadly left us last week, but stocks are suddenly back in the decade of bell bottoms and The Brady Bunch. Dow Industrials (^DJI) dropped 3.52%, their worst week of the year leaving blue chips now down in 12 of the past 13 trading sessions, a losing streak last seen in October 1974. This as citizens of Greece, birthplace of the marathon, prepared to run on its banks. Anxiety in Athens has clearly joined the country's leading export in spilling over into America and leaving behind a large mess, although an ominous slowdown in Mid Atlantic economic activity is enough to suggest 'Old Europe' isn't the only cause of the current panic. In Paris a champagne socialist moved into the 18th century splendor of the Élysée Palace as clothing company French Connection (FCOGF) plunged 35.9%; let's hope its shareholders are sanguine enough not to give a fcuk. On Broadway a musical about newspaper delivery boys was extended ad infinitum while Warren Buffett - who has one himself in the 1940s - sent Media General (MEG) surging 33.12% in a single day after buying such old-time titles as the Goochland Gazette and Marion Star & Mullins Enterprise. No top-tier economic data due today but Campbell Soup (CPB), Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (KKD), Lowe's (LOW), Tidewater (TDW), and Urban Outfitters (URBN) are all due to report results.

Envivio (ENVI): The communication equipment company is initiated with a Buy at Goldman Sachs.

Facebook (FB): The stock is a Hold at Hudson Square Research.

Nuance Communications (NUAN): NUAN is a new Neutral at Goldman Sachs.

Penn Virginia (PVA): PVA is picked up with a Buy at Brean Murray.

Regional banks: First Citizens (FCZA) and LNB Bancorp (LNBB) are each Market Performs at Keefe Bruyette.

Splunk (SPLK): Shares are begun with an Overweight at Barclays.

STAAR Surgical (STAA): The stock is initiated with an Outperform at William Blair.
