Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Sirius XM Radio Among Most Active Stocks in Pre-Market Today on the Nasdaq

Ericsson was down this morning.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The three most active funds and stocks in pre-market trading on the Nasdaq were Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX), Sirius XM Radio (SIRI), and Ericsson (ERIC) as of 9:00 a.m. Investors traded 5,087,210 shares of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, which was up $20.64, or 55.17%. Shares of Vertex Pharmaceuticals soared after it released preliminary data that showed its experimental drug VX-809 and its marketed drug Kalycedo have had success. Their function is to improve lung function in patients with the most common genetic mutation that causes cystic fibrosis. Only half of the patients studied have been reported, and the company with release the rest of the results during the summer. The study also confused researchers because the drugs did not reduce the amount of salt in the sweat of the patients; sweat chloride is thought to be the indicator for the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis. Investors traded 647,395 shares of Sirius XM, which was down $0.03, or 1.39%, and 423,300 shares of Ericsson, which was down $0.08, or 0.87%. Despite good first quarter numbers, Sirius XM is down. The company reached expectations, but this may not have not impressed investors. Investors continue to sell shares of Ericcson as it continues its slide from Friday.
