BMC Software and Groupon Among Most Active Stocks in Pre-Market Today on the Nasdaq


Zynga was up this morning.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The three most active funds and stocks in pre-market trading on the Nasdaq were BMC Software (BMC), Groupon (GRPN), and Zynga (ZNGA) as of 9:05 a.m. Investors traded 2,000,000 shares of BMC Software, which was unchanged. The hedge fund group Elliott appointed five directors to the board of BMC Software after the company drafted a shareholder rights plan to prevent a selling of the company. Elliot, which owns 5.5% of BMC Software, was disappointed with this decision and hopes to change board members' minds. Investors traded 1,141,541 shares of Groupon, which was up $2.77, or 23.56%, and 725,763 shares of Zynga, which was up $0.55, or 6.92%. Groupon shares soared in pre-market trading after it released its first-quarter results yesterday. Groupon incurred a net loss of $11.7 million, or $0.02 per share, but these numbers show a large improvement from the same quarter last year when the company reported a net loss of $146.5 million, or $0.48 per share. Measured on a non-GAAP basis, the company stated that it would have earned $16.3 million, or $0.02 per share. The company made $559.3 million in revenue, or an increase in 89% from the same quarter last year. Zynga was up in pre-market trading on the high demand for the Facebook (FB) IPO. The gaming company makes social games such as FarmVille, which is popular on Facebook.
