Arena Pharmaceuticals and Nvidia Among Most Active Stocks in Pre-Market Today on the Nasdaq

PowerShares QQQ Trust was down this morning.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The three most active funds and stocks in pre-market trading on the Nasdaq were Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA), Nvidia (NVDA), and PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) as of 8:45 a.m. Investors traded 4,951,109 shares of Arena Pharmaceuticals, which was up $3.63, or 99.18%. Arena almost doubled in value this morning after the FDA advisory panel recommended approval for Arena's potential weight-loss drug lorcaserin yesterday. Although the advisory panel just makes a recommendation, the FDA usually follows the panel's opinion. The panel approved the drug 18-4 with the four dissenting votes representing concerns over cardiovascular risk. Investors traded 1,525,850 shares of Nvidia, which was up $1.23, or 9.90%, and 562,259 shares of PowerShares QQQ, which was down $0.20, or 0.31%. Nvidia saw big gains this morning after it released its first-quarter revenue numbers and beat Wall Street expectations. The chipmaker reported $924.9 million in revenue compared to estimates of $916 million in revenue. Its net income was $60.4 million, or $0.10 per share, which was in line with expectations. The company projects second-quarter revenue between $990 million and $1.05 billion compared to analysts' projections of $972 million in revenue.
