MNYANVILLE ORIGINAL I love a good backstory, and hedge fund manager John Hurley has a memorable one. He fought during the first Gulf War as an officer of the First Cavalry Division. Now, his hedge fund pays tribute to that experience in its name, Cavalry Asset Management.

We like to see what the big guys think are good buys, so we jumped on the 13F the company filed today with the SEC, which detailed their holdings. It was interesting to see that he jumped on the Facebook (FB) bandwagon, although his stake at $3.687 million is small relative to the overall portfolio.

The majority of Hurley's investments are in technology, and they make up the top nine investments by value. The tenth is agricultural products and services company, Agrium (AGU) in which First Cavalry holds a $12,553 million stake. It is also possible to make the argument that Agrium is a tech play since one of its three business segments is Advanced Technologies.

Here are his top picks, in order of value.
