New Stock Coverage: SolarCity Is a Musk-Own Stock

Wall Street ratings agencies set the tone for today's stock market.

After $24 billion, the penny dropped on Washington at last. (Not to be confused with JC Penney (NYSE:JCP), which actually gained 4.18% in bouncing off three decade lows.) Thus did Dow Industrials (INDEXDJX:.DJI) surge on news the 16-day government shutdown, our first since 1995, was finally over. Back then Sandra Bullock did boffo box office business with The Net and Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) start button was all the rage. Eighteen years on, Sandra still defies Gravity and, as of a few minutes ago, the 'start' button is back, so no change there, then. With the approval ratings of Congress at a low ebb, Austin's own Astrotech (NASDAQ:ASTC) - address: 401 Congress Avenue - jumped 29.88% in one of the session's standout showings. Whole Foods (NASDAQ:WFM), also based in Bat City, rose 1.87% to a fresh best on a broker boost. Also ending at an historic high were the "burping seals" of Tupperware Brands (NYSE:TUP), a 3.84% gainer. Food for thought, although it's still best to keep them off the menu.

Today in economics, analysts call for a fall in October's Philadelphia Fed Index at 10:00 a.m. Eastern. On the quarter earnings front, expect announcements out of Capital One Financial (NYSE:COF), Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG), Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Phillip Morris (NYSE:PM), SABMiller (OTCMKTS:SBMRY), and Verizon (NYSE:VZ).

Allergan (NYSE:AGN): JMP Securities begins the botox maker at Outperform.

Allscripts Healthcare (NASDAQ:MDRX): Shares are started with an Equal Weight at Stephens.

Fortune Brands Home & Security (NYSE:FBHS): FBHS is a fresh Neutral at Macquarie.

InterNAP (NASDAQ:INAP): The stock is resumed with a Buy recommendation and $9 price objective at DA Davidson, which cites promise in the company's cloud and hosting services.

Royal KPN (OTCMKTS:KKPNY): Bank of America-Merrill Lynch launches Neutral-rated research. (NYSE:CRM): Shares are a new Buy at Argus.

Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL): The specialty chemicals company is assigned an Underweight at Morgan Stanley.

SolarCity (SCTY): The alternative energy outfit, whose chairman is Tesla's (NASDAQ:TSLA) ubiquitous Elon Musk, scores an upbeat Overweight initiation at JP Morgan. Yesterday shares surged some 12.55%.

Tenaris (NYSE:TS): Citigroup has a fresh Buy on the metal fabrication firm.
