The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,
Is king o' men for a' that.
– Robert Burns

Tomorrow Scotland's tartan army will honor its "people's poet," a penniless farmer whose best-known work - after the one we sang only 23 days ago, when the year was new and stocks were still surging - emphatically refutes the misguided notion that a person's worth is measured by his or her wallet. Something to ponder after a day that saw investors lose a lot of net worth, with the Dow (INDEXDJX:.DJI) dropping by triple digits. A great deal has thus changed from 2013, but one thing hasn't, namely an unstoppable Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX). Its beloved stock was the top S&P 500 Index (INDEXSP:.INX) name last year, and yesterday it repeated the trick with a 16.48% surge. (Alas, Mr. Burns' kilted countrymen will be none too pleased with that, since the streaming service rudely pulled the plug on Braveheart at the exact same moment the planet was singing Auld Lang's Syne.) Gordon Gekko's buddy Bud Fox, in stark contrast to the poet, spoke for all of Wall Street in saying, "There's no nobility in poverty." Aye, laddie, but there's mair than a wee bit o' poverty in nobility - Noble Corporation (NYSE:NE) imploded 8.61% in posting the S&P 500′s poorest performance. Elsewhere, matchmaking site Jiayuan.com (NASDAQ:DATE) slid 7.76% in slumping for a second day. You know romance really is dead when a couple who had been married 38 years (they tied the knot on Valentine's Day, no less) and informed the world "Love Will Keep Us Together," get divorced.

There aren't any economic events that may move US stock markets today, but we get another battery of earnings announcements. Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY), Covidien (NYSE:COV), Honeywell (NYSE:HON), Kansas City Southern (NYSE:KSU), Kimberly-Clark (NYSE:KMB), Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG), Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE:SWK), State Street (NYSE:STT), WW Grainger (NYSE:GWW), and Xerox (NYSE:XRX) are all expected to release results.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG): Carlos Slim, proud son of Mexico City, is the planet's second richest person. (Mind you, and notwithstanding that surname, the Latin billionaire could still do with shedding a pound or two.) Perhaps he both invests in and eats at this fast food firm, for stock in Chipotle Mexican Grill has surged some 68.03% in the past 12 months. Today Oppenheimer assigns an upbeat Outperform rating and establishes a price objective of $625, which is the highest such projection on all of Wall Street.

Jive Software (NASDAQ:JIVE): Shares are picked up with a Perform by BMO Capital Markets.

Pandora Media (NYSE:P): Pandora Media, whose stock has surged of late, is a new Outperform at Oppenheimer.

Shipping Stocks: Evercore starts Overweights on Safe Bulkers (NYSE:SB) and Scorpio Bulkers (NYSE:SALT), assigning respective objectives of $13 and $14.

Tempur Sealy International (NYSE:TPX): Bank of America-Merrill Lynch launches Buy-rated research on mattress maker Tempur Sealy International. Its target price on the stock is $60.

Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS): Stock in Dow member Walt Disney is a Hold at Topeka.

Workday (NYSE:WDAY): Shares are a new Perform at BMO Capital, whose price objective is $85.
