An Update on the 20 Strongest Names in the S&P 500

Whirlpool is an example of an extremely strong name.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL has provided its proprietary list of the 20 strongest names in the S&P 500 (INDEXSP:.INX). The strength of these stocks is not based on their performances; their strength is calculated using our proprietary algorithm. The average duration of these names being listed as Strong Buys is 68 days. You will notice some names say Sell 50% or Sell 100% on the far right column. This is purely a money management tool that we use to determine if the stock is overbought. When you see a reading of Approaching Overbought, it will read Sell 50%. When you see a reading of Overbought, it will read Sell 100%.

Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR) is an example of how we incorporate the Buy/Sell ratings into our countertrend measurement. WHR is extremely strong; however, if you have owned this name since August, you are up close to 50%, and reducing exposure at an Overbought level is a prudent move.
