Midday Nasdaq Rises on Netflix, but Apple Falls

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The Nasdaq Composite Index (INDEXNASDAQ:.IXIC) rose 0.28% to 3,143.97 as of 2:45 p.m. EDT today after the release of minutes from the last Federal Open Market Committee meeting.
 
Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) dipped 0.92% to $2.71 after CEO Mel Karmazin continued to sell shares of the company. Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), though, jumped 6.47% to $66.63 after announcing the premiere date for its first original series, a re-working of the legendary British series House of Cards
 
BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) jumped 1.99% to $8.22 after announcing an unexpected increase in subscriber numbers, while Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) fell 0.72% to $666.59 as investors grew nervous about the rapidly flooding tablet market.
 
Leap Wireless (NASDAQ:LEAP) continued to slide, falling 5.30% to $5.90 as it became unlikely that Sprint (NYSE:S) will acquire the company after failing to buy MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS). And biotech company NuVasive (NASDAQ:NUVA) dropped a full third, falling 33.33% to $15.08 after posting a weak third-quarter earnings estimate.
