NFL football betting is a game of numbers. And here's the most important number you should know before whipping out your wallet to bet on the NFL: 52.38%. That's the percentage of NFL bets you need to win to just break even. That's right. Even. We're not even talking about making money, yet. So, you'd essentially need to hit above 52.4% to actually turn a profit.

Unfortunately, that's easier said than done. Winning more than 53% when you bet on NFL games is actually pretty difficult. So what can you do to make those locked in NFL bets make you more cash? We've got the NFL betting strategy tips you need to score more profit, so read on.

NFL Betting Tip No. 1 - Manage your money.

Who is the better bettor? Someone with a $2,000 per month betting budget who drops $1,000 on the Giants and wins? Or someone with the same budget who drops $100 against the Giants and loses?

If you answered the bettor who dropped $1,000, you're wrong. Sure, he won that bet, but risking too much of your bankroll is a surefire way to lose your shirt in the long run.

Instead, follow the 2% to 5% rule. Never risk more than 2% to 5% of your bankroll on a single bet. We recommend risking at the lower end of the rule for smaller plays and at the higher end for plays you love. So, if you've got a $2,000 bankroll to work with, $40 to $100 is just right. If you win, you'll be able to pad your bankroll and have more to play with. And if you lose, it won't put a huge dent in what you've got to work with.

NFL Betting Tip No. 2 - Search for edges and take advantage of them.

Some NFL bettors believe consistency is key to winning. That said, they'd consistently bet on six NFL games every week, regardless of how the week has shaped up. This is the right approach -- assuming that your goal is to blow through your bankroll.

Instead of betting on everything, look for edges in the NFL lines and take advantages of them. Sure, you might only place one bet one week and three another, but when you bet with an advantage, you'll likely make more money in the long run.

NFL Betting Tip No. 3 - Go shopping for the best lines.

Not all sports books are created equal. If you really want to pump up your profits, do some NFL line shopping. It's easy to do. Once you've settled on a bet, jump over to another two or three sports books to see how their NFL lines compare. A half-point spread difference could mean the different between winning and losing.

NFL Betting Tip No. 4 - Don't drink. Seriously.

Nobody's going to slap a Budweiser out of your hands while you're watching the game. But if you're about to place a few bets, we say try to limit your intake. Sober bettors are better bettors, so wait until you've locked in your plays before you crack open another one.

And while we're talking about not losing your judgment, don't forget that everyone loses. Smart NFL betting is about making the right short-term decisions that will yield you the highest long-term profits. So if you lose a bet, don't tilt. If you bet smart on the NFL by using our NFL betting strategy tips, it'll all work out in the end.
