Markets Bounce Back, Twitter Could Be Up For Sale


Today's financial recap and tomorrow's financial outlook.

Jeff Cooper, author of the Daily Market Report,  took a look at several stocks this morning. Today, he initiated a short on Trinity Industries (TRN), which closed down 2.7%. He also and initiated a long swing position in Energen (EGN).

Market Recap

Markets regained their losses from yesterday.

The S&P 500 and NASDAQ rallied about a half-percent. DJIA was finished up slightly.

The Russell 2000 outperformed all major indices and closed up 0.7%

Oil prices rose today on strong demand and a possible storm in the Gulf Coast, in turn pushing up the energy sector.

US bond yields rose today, while yields in Europe fell slightly as investors remain concerned about a possible Greek default.

Cybersecurity and consumer staples were today's top performing sectors.

In cybersecurity, Fortinet (FTNT) and Cyberark Software (CYBR) rallied to new 52 week highs, as did the Purefunds ISE Cybersecurity ETF (HACK).

Regional banking also did well today.

Transports fell slighily on higher oil prices.

Twitter (TWTR) shares continued falling early on but gained traction after Fox Business reported that the company is open to a potential sale.

Shopify (SHOP) continued its rally and closed up 7.4%. Shares are up over 30% over the past 5 days.

European markets regained their footing from yesterday. The German DAX rallied 0.54%, and while the French CAC rose 0.51%.

Asian markets were down today, with China leading the way by a wide margin.

The Nikkei closed down 0.64%, and the Korean Kopsi fell 0.7%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dropped 1.10%, while the Shanghai Composite tumbled 3.5%

Wednesday's Financial Outlook

US economic data for tomorrow will include MBA mortgage application, DOE oil reports, and the highly-anticipated FOMC Rate Decision.

Overseas, economic data will include Britain's employment report, the Euro-Zone consumer price index, and New Zealand's GDP.

Before the open, FedEx (FDX) will be announcing earnings. After the close, Dresser-Rand (DRC), Jabil Circuit (JBL), and Oracle (ORCL) will report.
