At its height, GeoCities was the go-to source for free web hosting. During its prime, the company had a Japanese subsidiary and even an online GeoCities Marketplace where users could cash in their “GeoPoints” to purchase merchandise at the “GeoStore.” Of course, that was 10 years ago. By closing down GeoCities in October, Yahoo! is abandoning free web-hosting entirely, funneling user towards their fee-based web-hosting services.
