"World's Most Honest Employment Ad" Seeks Candidate for Wrong Position

Gawker brings our attention to a little ad posted by the Illinois Valley News--which actually happens to be in Oregon--on

"How bad do you want to be a reporter? Bad enough to work nights and weekends? The poor glutton for punishment that's chosen will cover city and county government. Sports and general interest feature stories.

"In exchange for your long hours and tireless efforts you will be rewarded with low pay and marginal health insurance. Please send resume, and 3 writing samples to This is a full time salaried position located in the beautiful northwest."

Well, the first question I've got is, how "bad" does the News need a proofreader?

My second question is, uh, I don't have a second question. But about that low pay? Don't sweat it--you can always bring in some extra cash the way veteran CBS Radio reporter Howard Arenstein and his wife did...until Saturday.

The two were arrested for growing 11 fully-mature marijuana plants in their Washington, D.C. back yard. Police also found six two-ounce bags of weed inside their home.

Fact is, they were actually killing two birds with one stone--supplementing their paltry income and bolstering their marginal health insurance by growing their own medicine.
POSITION:  No positions in stocks mentioned.
