Wheel of Fortune Contestant Solves Puzzle with One Letter

R, S, T, L, N, EGAD!
Vanna probably thought she's seen it all. Contestants from all walks of life, background, and intellect displaying various levels of genius and imbecility. But little did she know that mere moments after she showed off that night's evening gown would she witness a stunning display of quick thinking and lucky wit.

With just a single letter on the board -- and a somewhat helpful apostrophe -- contestant Caitlin Burke was able to solve the "Phrase" puzzle to win the round and a trip to the Caribbean. Here's the clip:

Esquire did a profile on Burke following the game. It was to her benefit that her opponent Rick went first, giving her time to work out the puzzle in her head. As her mind worked a mile a minute, she explained her split-second guesses. After briefly considering "I'LL" as the first word and "I'LL HAVE WHAT SHE'S HAVING" as a non-working answer, Burke moved on to "I'VE." Before Rick even gave his guess for a letter, Burke had it solved.

Fortunately for Burke, Rick -- along with most, if not all, of the viewers -- hadn't a clue.

Esquire's Chris Jones writes:
She landed on $900 and picked L. "I'm not sure why," she says. "I should have picked G or T, but I think because it was in the middle of the biggest word, I got stuck on it."

She would have made $1,800 more with G or T. But had she picked G or T, she wouldn't have solved the puzzle with just a single letter. She would have solved it with three. She probably would have still gone on to crush the game -- Burke ended up taking it for more than $53,000 in cash and prizes -- but she wouldn't have become the miracle contestant.
And seriously, only an idiot couldn't solve the puzzle with all the Gs on the board.
