WHAT TRADE DOWN? Craft beers brewing up success story in down market

Print comment Post Comments
Sales volume for domestic brewers as measured in barrels slipped 0.1 percent, through the first half of the year, compared with annual increases of just over 1 percent the past two years, according to the Chicago Tribune. Isolate the small-but-fast-growing craft sector, which makes up about 5 percent of beer sales, and the story is different, however. "Craft sales volume as measured in barrels increased 5 percent during the first half of 2009 compared with the same period in 2008, according to the Brewers Association, a craft beer trade group."
