War Brewing Between High Alcohol Content Beer Makers

TAP THE ROCKIES BALBOA
Last week, Scottish microbrewers BrewDog delighted us all with their brand of beer called The End of History, served in the handsome carcasses of squirrels. And at 110 proof, the brand was purported to be the "World's Strongest Beer." But now, a Dutch company is raising the stakes with its own brand called "Start the Future" which tips the Breathalyzer at 120 proof. That's 60% alcohol.

According to Reuters, Jan Nijboer, owner of the brewery 't Koelschip which means "the Refrigerated Ship," acknowledges the rivalry to create the most potent glass of beer. "It has become a little competition," Nijboer said. "You should see it as a joke."

Costing about $45 for a one-third liter bottle, Start the Future shouldn't be drunk like beer, "but like a cocktail -- in a nice whisky or cognac glass," Nijboer claimed.

At 120 proof, it should probably be drunk more like lighter fluid.
POSITION:  No positions in stocks mentioned.
