"The Decline: The Geography of a Recession," as created by labor writer LaToya Egwuekwe, illustrates the scope and magnitude of unemployment. Using data from the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics dating back to January 2007, Egwuekwe built the map shown below.

One can't help but see similarities between increasing unemployment and a virus spreading throughout the country. As of July 15, the last time the map was updated, there were more than 30 million people out of work in the United States.
