Verizon Launches HTC Thunderbolt This Thursday!

Print comment Post Comments
Man, was that a headache!

For months now, Verizon has been shuffling around the release date to the HTC Thunderbolt -- probably the most anticipated Android device. The Thunderbolt features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 40GB of total storage, 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, 720p video recording, and will act as Verizon's premiere 4G network smartphone. So it's no wonder Android fans have been champing at the bit to see this on shelves.

But alleged issues with the device's battery life postponed the release date from mid-February to mid-2011. This great smartphone -- one that Wirefly reviewer Bob Kovacs preferred to the iPhone 4 -- could potentially be held until the end of June.

However, this week, the clouds parted and a Thunderbolt rained down. Verizon will be launching the HTC Thunderbolt this Thursday, the 17th!

And it's not going to cost $299 like one Best Buy flyer suggested! According to Verizon's press release, with a two-year contract, the subsidized price for the Thunderbolt will be $249. Of course, if you go through Wirefly, you can pre-order the Thunderbolt for only $199!

The carrier suggests users can expect to see 5 to 12Mbps downloads and 2to 5Mbps uploads in 4G areas, and Mobile Hotspot usage -- which enables 4G connection to up to eight Wi-Fi devices -- will be free until May 15. Amazingly, Verizon has kept the unlimited 4G data plan for $29.99 a month. Don't expect that deal to last long, so take advantage of it while you can.

So barring any unforeseen glitches or bugs not found in past Thunderbolt reviews, this will be a tremendous 4G device for Verizon and HTC.
