IT'S CLEAN, IT'S GREEN...IT COMPROMISES NATIONAL SECURITY

While I was browsing through CommodityOnline.com over breakfast, just like everyone else in the world does each morning, I noticed a story which had somehow escaped my attention.

The American Wind Energy Association said that "the Defense Department and the FAA stalled or stopped 9,000 megawatts worth of projects in 2009, equal to the amount of wind energy projects constructed during the year."

Why?

Apparently, wind turbines "confuse air traffic controllers" since they resemble storms on radar systems and can cause planes to drop off controllers' screens altogether.

Gary Seifert, a researcher with the Department of Energy, called the problem "the train wreck of the 2000s."

Planes, trains...throw a Chevy Volt in there and we'll have the requisite automobile reference to complete the phrase.

Ooooh, and there's today's Daily Double, seeing as the Volt can also be described as a train wreck.
