Top 10 CEO Wealth Creators... and Destroyers

Print comment Post Comments
Chief Executive magazine has published its third annual list of the top CEO "wealth creators” and “wealth destroyers.”

The so-called Wealth Creation Index (WCI) attempts to identify those business leaders who have performed best in creating true economic value—as opposed to mere accounting value—as measured by GAAP metrics. The rankings don’t include REITs among the S&P 500 and only assess companies whose CEO has been in the job for at least three years in order to get a fair appraisal of CEO actions under varying conditions

This year, the top 10 wealth creators include Apple’s Steve Jobs, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and Priceline’s Jeff Boyd.

Indeed, vaulted to the top of this year's rankings, says Chief Executive magazine, as it enjoyed tremendous success in moving its U.S. business model to international markets. The company also kept its operating costs in check, limiting them to 20 percent of year-on-year growth while pursuing an industry-leading growth in revenues of 27 percent.

The top 10 wealth destroyers, according to the survey, include Dean Foods’ Gregg Engles, CVS Caremark’s Thomas Ryan, and Kraft’s Irene Rosenfeld.
