"How fast does consumption need to grow in China in order for a meaningful rebalancing to take place?," asks Michael Pettis, a professor at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, where he specializes in Chinese financial markets, and a Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "Probably a lot more than you think.  This is arithmetically the case because China is starting from such a low base."
