Stressed-out Listeners Turn to Classical Music

Print comment Post Comments
"Radio audiences are turning to the soothing properties of classical music as a means of coping with the traumas brought on by the economic downturn, gloomy weather and summer exams, according to official listening statistics released yesterday," writes The Independent. Minyanville's Kevin Depew touched on this recently when writing about social mood and "Velocity Slowing":

"During periods of positive mood, which are characterized by a desire for increased risk-taking and expansion (bull markets), speed and acceleration are closely associated with nearly all aspects of social events. During periods of negative social mood, however, the opposite forces emerge; a desire to retrench, withdraw and slow down."
