Sales of iPhone 4 Trail HTC Thunderbolt in Verizon Stores

When you have the fastest smartphone on the planet, what's a four-hour battery life anyway?

Android's new powerhouse player is the HTC Thunderbolt -- Verizon's first 4G smartphone. It has a monster of a screen, a snappy processor, and comes equipped with a hefty 40GB of storage capacity. It's a tremendous device -- one that's hampered, however, by an abysmal battery life and a horrendous launch.

But despite its limited battery life, the HTC Thunderbolt is selling like hotcakes -- even outselling the long-awaited Verizon iPhone 4 in many of the carrier's stores.

According to Boy Genius Report, BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk and his associates spoke with 150 different Verizon Wireless locations across 22 major US cities and asked which was the better seller. Piecyk reported, "61% of stores said the two devices were selling at about the same rate, 11% said the iPhone 4 was selling faster and 28% said they were selling more Thunderbolt smartphones than iPhones."

Of course, this moment in the sun will be fleeting if the iPhone 5 is launched in June. But if rumors that Apple's device will be pushed back are true, that leaves Android with a solid seller for possibly the next two quarters.

With only more devices to come.
