Reports of the Sony Walkman's Death "Premature"

The Los Angeles Times reports that rumors of the death of the Sony Walkman are "premature."

While the Walkman will no longer be sold in Japan, where the stalwart cassette player was birthed, it will still be available in the United States, which undoubtedly makes all four people who still listen to tapes very happy.

Why doesn't Sony feel the need to continue offering the Walkman to Japanese consumers who might be feeling nostalgic for the device that replaced this:

Until, of course, the robot goes insane, turns against its owner and squeezes his head mercilessly until he dies a horrible, untimely death.
