Pop-Tarts Store Arrives in Times Square

NOW THIS IS HAPPENING

I've personally never understood why any sensible person would come to New York City and include a trip to the M&Ms store or the Hershey store in an area of Manhattan not much different from Orlando to buy junk food readily available at any Wal-Mart in any city, town, village, hamlet, or airport.

And now, Pop-Tarts World is coming.

Etienne Patoute, senior director of the Pop-Tarts brand at the Kellogg Company, told the New York Times that, "Our hope is to strengthen the bonding between the brand and the consumer, and that has great benefits for the brand."

Boy, that is marketing-speak at its finest.

But, marketing is what the store is all about.

Pop-Tarts World is a 3,200 square foot ad for Pop-Tarts--with a cafe featuring Pop-Tarts Sushi, which is "three kinds of Pop-Tarts minced and then wrapped in a fruit roll-up."

There will also be an hourly light show during which customers get "frosted" with a red and a white light, followed by brief pulses of light in "all different colors to mimic the sprinkles" after which "another really bright light" will treat customers to the  sensation of being wrapped in foil.

A retail outlet that lets people experience the feeling of what it's actually like to be a Pop-Tart?

Hmmm...I'm almost starting to understand why someone would show up to a place like this now. Maybe they could even run visitors over a supermarket scanner and have a huge mouth that takes a bite out of customers as they leave.

See you there!
