Pepsi Honors Women by Launching Skinny Cans

Print comment Post Comments
If you're noticing an inordinate amount of snooty beautiful people on the streets of New York, you're not mistaken. It's Fashion Week until February 17. A time when your stained trousers can be passed off as a bold statement if you're confident enough.

And to honor the days when folks are going to be extra materialistic and conscious of looks, Pepsi is taking the opportunity to capitalize on the moment and debut a skinny can for its Diet Pepsi brand. To quote its press release, the new "taller, sassier" can is in "celebration of beautiful, confident women."

Isn't that nice? But wait, Chief Marketing Officer Jill Beraud digs the hole a little deeper:

"Diet Pepsi has a long history of celebrating women through iconic fashion imagery seen in our infamous and historical campaigns, and we're proud to continue that tradition as an official sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today's most stylish looks, and we're excited to throw its coming-out party during the biggest celebration of innovative design in the world."

As BNET's Jim Edwards points out, Beraud likely meant to say "famous" and not "infamous."

But considering Pepsi believes skinny cans are the perfect representation of the confident woman, maybe he didn't.
