Innovator in radium isolation, Marie Curie died from radiation poisoning. Inventor of the coat parachute, Franz Reichelt fell to his death during a test run. And now, the owner of the company that manufactured Segway scooters has died riding a Segway scooter.

British millionaire Jimi Heselden tragically fell to his death while riding his company's device along the cliffs of the River Wharfe near Wetherby, England. West Yorkshire Police found the 62-year-old with his Segway nearby and believed the death to be accidental.

Heselden was a philanthropist who donated millions to charities like Help for Heroes and the Leeds Community Foundation. Reporting a fortune estimated to be £166 million, The Independent placed Heselden as one of the wealthiest 400 people in the UK.

Hopefully his death will urge manufacturers to improve handling in a way that George W. Bush couldn't.
