Nike Patents Sneakers From Back to the Future II

SHARK STILL LOOKS FAKE
DailyFeed
They're not as handy as self-drying jackets. They're not as convenient as dehydrated pizza from Pizza Hut. And they're certainly not as vital as Mattel's hot pink hoverboards. Nevertheless, Nike got the ball rolling and patented a circa-2015 item depicted in Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future II. Get ready to turn your clothes inside-out, friends, because we might be on the precipice of owning high-tops with power laces.

From the looks of the images, Nike definitely drew inspiration from the film's props and hopefully will incorporate the satisfying "zipping" sound effect. The patent also includes an image of a charging station -- still necessary in this dilithium crystal-less world.

Of course, as with all patents, there's no guarantee that Nike will actually make the power-laced high-tops. They could have been submitted just to stake a claim in the technology. So like everything else in Hill Valley 2015, we'll all have to wait.

In the meantime, I'll be at the Cafe '80s ordering a Pepsi from Reagan.
