This year, NEWSWEEK and its research partners have expanded the Green Rankings to analyze the 100 biggest companies worldwide. IBM, with its commitment to reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, earned the No. 1 spot. This ranking of public companies in developed and emerging markets uses the same rigorous methodology as the U.S. ranking. But because companies are scored relative to each other, and because the composition of this list is different from the U.S. 500, companies that appear on both lists score differently.
