Mexican Drug Cartels Help, Then Hurt Ford Truck Sales

NOW THIS IS HAPPENING

Mexican sales of the Ford Lobo pick-up, which Reuters reports is "popular with drug cartel hitmen" are dropping steadily--as well as sales of pick-ups across the board--because drivers are terrified of being mistaken for drug lords by, well, rival drug lords.

"It's a vehicle that is in high demand for committing crimes," said Gabriel Lopez, president of Ford Mexico.

Cratering Lobo sales have pushed Ford's Mexican market share down from 16% to 10.7%.

"The (sale) of big pick-ups for personal use has fallen because of insecurity. It is the only segment that has," Lopez said.

Would it be fair to say that the Lobo is yet another innocent victim of the failed "war on drugs'?
