"Japan’s governing coalition announced $80.6 billion in stimulus spending Tuesday in a bid to buttress the country’s fragile economic recovery and underpin Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama’s popularity ahead of elections next year," according to the New York Times. "The Japanese economy, still reeling from its worst recession in decades, has been again hit by a recent, damaging surge in the yen, causing Mr. Hatoyama to warn that Japan could fall back into recession."
