The Wall Street Journal reports: “Apple Brings its iPad to China.”

This is slightly misleading. In fact, Apple (AAPL) isn’t “bringing” the iPad to China. It’s just letting it stay there. That’s because, like most of Apple’s products, the iPad is of course assembled in China.

Now, I’ve worked at an array of food establishments in my life, and I totally get how when you’re the one making the food, you usually don’t like eating the food. I mean you see it day-in-day-out.  The same old disgusting sandwiches devoid of any personality.  There's no way you would eat that stuff.  Unless, of course, you get some kind of meal comp, or at least a nice discount on said food.

Which the Chinese should totally get if they’re the ones making the product. Right?

Eh…nope.

“Apple said it will charge from 3,988 yuan ($590), for the 16-gigabyte iPad, to 5,588 yuan ($826), for the 64-gigabyte model. That's a premium of about 18% over the U.S. price of between $499 and $699.”

See, manufacturing really is for suckers.
