Intel Drops All Pretense of Understanding Emerging Trends, Adds as Director of Creative Innovation

Intel (INTC), the semiconductor company whose chips run an estimated 80 percent of the world's personal computers, has reached out to the Black Eyed Peas for production help. Seriously. They are doing this. Black Eyed Peas member will join the company as a "Director of Creative Innovation," a multi-year role with unspecified terms.

While Intel owns a secure foothold in the personal computing chip marketplace, the company is hoping to extend that into higher growth areas such as smart phones and mobile devices.

“It’s imperative that Intel and our innovations are kept in front of the global youth culture that embraces new devices and new forms of communication and entertainment,” Deborah Conrad, the company’s head of marketing said. When viewed from that perspective, adding a singer whose stage name employs a letter arrangement with decimal points-slash-periods akin to the 1990s era makes perfect sense for the company.

In addition to his work with the Black Eyed Peas,, whose real name is William James Adams, Jr., has produced other artists, including Michael Jackson and Usher. Of course, with the Black Eyed Peas scheduled to perform at this year's Super Bowl halftime show, predicted to be among the highest-rated games ever thanks to the appearance of two marquee teams in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, perhaps there is also a publicity angle to be had here by Intel. LOL! Good lookin' out, Intel!
