IMUS--an Integrated Manure Utilization System from Alberta, Canada's Highmark Renewables, is making its first appearance at this week's World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.

Imus, Don

IMUS, manure-to-methane process

The 65,000 people expected to attend the Expo will get to watch 500 pounds of cattle manure dumped each day into the IMUS mobile digester, which turns feces into methane gas almost instantly.

“Obviously, we’re not making huge amounts, but it’s a safe small-scale system,” said Trevor Nickel, Highmark's assistant general manager. “We’re making enough to show that easily you could heat up your house with this.”

Highmark, however, isn't heating a home this week. No, they're powering something else with all that cow dung:

A gas grill.

Which gives a whole new twist to the age-old phrase, "Don't s--t where you eat."
