How to Turn Your iPhone Into a Police Scanner

Who watches the watchmen? Well, for two bucks, it can be you.

Available now in the iTunes Store, the 5-0 Radio Police Scanner allows iPhone users to tap into the latest in traffic jams, four-alarm fires, and -- if you're lucky -- public streakers. According to the description, the police scanner app accesses frequencies like "police, firefighters, aircraft, railroad, marine, emergency, and ham radios."

Along with an integrated map which finds the location of the feed, there's built-in police/EMS/fire/military codes and a phonetic alphabet tied specifically to your city or county -- which can be handy when your neighbor's arrested for a 513.

Android users aren't left out either. The Android Market has a few options in the way of police scanner apps.
