"Flights were grounded and ministries and schools shut across Greece on Wednesday as civil servants and private sector workers went on a nationwide strike to protest against European Union-backed austerity measures aimed at tackling the country’s debt crisis," the Financial Times reported. "Several thousand protesters marched through Stadiou Street in central Athens with posters and banners proclaiming “People above markets” and “The capitalists should pay for the crisis”."
