Just two days after legendary Yankees announcer Bob Sheppard passed away at 99, legendary Yankees owner George Steinbrenner succumbed to a heart attack after being rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Under Steinbrenner's tutelage, dating back to 1973, the Yankees won 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles.

Yankee fans have been famously divided about Steinbrenner, but the love/hate ratio generally leaned toward "love".

The Steinbrenner family issued this statement just minutes ago:

"It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing. He passed away this morning in Tampa, Fla., at age 80."

He will be missed by all.
