Pity the poor spokeswoman at Bank of America. Whatever her holiday plans, consider them on hold.

“We take the allegations made by Ms. Ash very seriously and are thoroughly researching her claims,” BofA spokeswoman Jumana Bauwens said. “Bank of America will work with Ms. Ash and her counsel to determine the extent and cause of her claims and move toward an appropriate resolution of the case.”

The case? That a Bank of America crew broke into a woman's house and took everything, including her deceased husband.

The New York Times reports:

“When [Ash] finally got into the house, it was empty. All of her possessions were gone: furniture, her son’s ski medals, winter clothes and family photos. Also missing was a wooden box, its top inscribed with the words ‘Together Forever,’ that contained the ashes of her late husband, Robert.”

What follows in the Times is possibly one of the most depressing stories you’ve ever heard involving a bank, trumping stories of financial institutions screwing up foreclosures, getting facts wrong, mailing things to the wrong addresses, losing documents, and basically lying time and time again. Oh, and another thing:

THEY STOLE THE ASHES OF A WOMAN'S DEAD HUSBAND!

Considering that Bank of America is about to get slammed by WikiLeaks, this latest story can’t possibly help whatever defense the bank is planning to mount.
