Cool New iPhone App Is Like Shazam for Your TV

Print comment Post Comments
A year or two before our iPhones were translating Spanish street signs in real time, our amazement was limited to identifying songs by waving our device at a speaker. Apps like Shazam and SoundHound took center stage at bars and parties, allowing iPhone and Android users to boast about how truly far technology has come.

Were we ever so naive in 2008?

But as apps grew bigger brains and feature complexity, media-identifying apps like Shazam were due for an update. Well, IntoNow appears to be that update.

Put simply, IntoNow is like Shazam for your TV. Run the app during a television show that's aired in the last five years, and IntoNow will identify the show and episode and provide the related information and links to IMDb, Netflix, and iTunes. The app also works with online video like Hulu or YouTube.

According to the iTunes description, "IntoNow also helps you see which shows you have in common with your friends -- including whether they've seen the latest episode -- and alerts you whenever you and a friend are watching the same show at the same time. Use it to discover new shows, discuss your favorites with your friends, and learn more about whatever you're into now!"

While the social aspect doesn't seem too exciting, IntoNow reignites that excitement of playing with a cool new feature on your smartphone. Expect users to stay up late into the night, trying to find the limits of IntoNow's knowledge.

IntoNow is free in the iTunes Store. Android version forthcoming.
