THE REAL THING
DailyFeed
One popular myth about the Coca Cola formula holds that the recipe is so guarded that only two men can know half the recipe at any given time. Another says the exact recipe is kept in a vault at the Atlanta company's headquarters.

Not true, especially not after today.

The full "secret" recipe for making Coke was has been published on the website for This American Life, a radio show based out of Chicago. At the time we posted this story, the This American Life website was down, but according to the Globe and Mail, the radio show's reporters had found a photo of the recipe published in a 1979 issue of the Atlanta Constitution-Journal. No one had ever noticed.

Coke's recipe is said to be divided into two parts. The first includes caffeine, sugar, caramel and vanilla, and “fluid extract of coca."

The second part, given the name "Merchandise 7X", which does sound like code-speak, is where you find Coke's flavor:  it includes cinnamon, nutmeg oil, neroli, orange oil and coriander. How will the world's largest beverage company respond? Is this the real thing? Stay tuned.
