"Cloud Girlfriend" Offers Facebook Love on Demand

Used to be that when you needed to make up a girlfriend, she'd be a resident of Canada and friends would never see or talk to her. You two met on a "business trip," had a "brief fling," and currently keep in touch by "written letter." Now, in this push-button age of ours, dubious chums need a little more evidence that you could ever be desirable to the opposite sex. Short of asking help from an understanding second-cousin, you're in need of an attractive stranger who will periodically post love notes on your Facebook wall.

Well, sure enough, Cloud Girlfriend aims to be the savior to the physically and emotionally unappealing with a web presence. Although the service has yet to launch, Cloud Girlfriend explains the simple steps it will perform once it launches:

Step 1: Define your perfect girlfriend.
Step 2: We bring her into existence.
Step 3: Connect and interact with her publicly on your favorite social network.
Step 4: Enjoy a public long distance relationship with your perfect girl.

And the best part, the guys who sign up can finally toss that ratty anime pillowcase once and for all!

Cloud Girlfriend co-founder David Fuhriman assures you that this virtual flame is a legitimate service. "The girlfriend is operated by a real girl. It is not a sex chat or pornography service," Fuhriman wrote on Quora. "The right virtual girlfriend can be just like having a real long-distance girlfriend, without the hassles."

Hassles like physical contact, personal support, public activities, private intimacy, etc.

Fuhriman told Business Insider that the Cloud Girlfriend will consist of a "network of real human beings" and he believes it'll help men get a real-life girlfriend. Why? Jealousy.

"They might think, 'Someone else thinks highly enough of this person to date him, so maybe I should too.' " Sounds like you'd be better off with the Cloud Girlfriend.

He added that the service will fulfill psychological needs like intimacy and friendship. Also these interactions, Fuhriman maintains, "can even build self confidence and help users navigate real-life situations."

Scenarios like explaining to your laughing friends that your girlfriend's cut-and-pasted Wall post is completely different from the ones posted on thousands of other losers' profiles.

Once you live through that, there's nowhere your confidence can go but up.
