Catcher In the Fry: JD Salinger Was Huge Burger King Fan

Print comment Post Comments
To commemorate the first anniversary of JD Salinger's death, the University of East Anglia has put 50 letters and four postcards, written by the legendary author on display.

They were sent to Donald Hartog, a friend of Salinger's who lived in London--and they showed a side of the reclusive writer never before known. Hartog's daughter donated them to the university after her father died in 2007.

Here's what we now know about the man behind The Catcher in the Rye:

He enjoyed gardening.

He liked the Three Tenors (Jose Carreras was his favorite).

He closely followed the tennis career of Tim Henman.

And his favorite fast food restaurant was Burger King.

Yes, the creator of Holden Caulfield, perhaps modern literature's best-known protagonist, loved himself a Whopper. But, as they say, different strokes for different folks. For example, supermodel Heidi Klum is apparently partial to McDonald's:

Professional mess Amy Winehouse seems to enjoy KFC:

David Hasselhoff (who actually isn't huge in Germany) also loves burgers--JUST LIKE JD SALINGER! Amazing!

See what I did here? JD Salinger? Keywords: Salinger, Burger King, Hasselhoff, Whopper? Oh God, kill me now.
