Thomas Brandl and Michael Koenigsfeld, a couple who run a funeral home in Cologne, Germany, have decided to dip a toe into the waters of the gay afterlife market.

The two are offering caskets adorned with, according to Reuters, "images of mostly naked, muscular young men in athletic poses inspired by Italian Renaissance paintings."

"We believe you should be able to have a coffin that lets you embark on your last journey in a way that reflects how you lived your life,"  Brandl told the wire service.

Perfectly positioned to service the gay community, as estimates suggest 10% of Cologne's population is homosexual, Brandl and Koenigsfeld are also selling coffins and urns in rainbow colors and providing burials "around a tree reserved exclusively for homosexuals."

While I applaud the creativity, I have only one question: are "traditional" caskets and urns considered particularly "straight"?

Just something to think about over the weekend...
