OH MY GODWIN

Confirming that you needn't be middle class to be a Tea Party member, Blackstone Group CEO Steve Schwarzman surely made his ancestors proud when he compared taxes to one of the ugliest eras in the 20th century.

Speaking at a board meeting of an unnamed nonprofit firm, Schwarzman decried the Obama administration's increase in private-equity firm taxes. "It's a war," he said. "It's like when Hitler invaded Poland in 1939."

Attendees were naturally offended. Newsweek spoke with several members of the audience, one of whom said, "War? Hitler? Poland? A little over the top for a proposal to make hedge-fund managers pay their fair share in taxes."

Then again, by spending $3 million on his 60th birthday, Schwarzman is already well-versed in the actions and lifestyle of a ruthless, uncaring dictator.
