Are You Saving Enough for Retirement?

Print comment Post Comments
See that elderly couple in the photo? They seem so happy. And why shouldn't they be? Unlike 20-some-percent of people in the U.S., they probably have jobs!

Which reminds me: Are you saving enough for retirement? Hahaha. It's a trick question! Because you are never going to retire. Seriously. You never will. According to the Bureau of Labor Services (BLS), the number of people aged 75 and older who have re-entered the work force -- not remained employed at that age, mind you, but who have re-entered the work force is 1.2 million now, up from an average of 500,000 between 1967 and 1993. See the chart below.

The good news? The average U.S. life expectancy is 77.9 years, so once you hit that magic age of 75 you'll probably only have another 33 months left of slowly trudging in to punch the clock for The Man.
