Apple Confirms Verizon iPad

AT&T takes the jab and braces for the uppercut.

The much-maligned mobile provider is midway through a possible knockout as Apple announced that, starting October 28th, the iPad can access Verizon's wireless network with a Verizon MiFi mobile hotspot. According to Gizmodo, except for the separate MiFi unit, both Verizon and AT&T's iPads appear to be identical.

Pricing for the models are identical. A 16GB Wi-Fi iPad bundled with MiFi will cost $630, 32GB Wi-Fi iPad + MiFi will be $730, and 64GB Wi-Fi iPad plus MiFi will be $830. The data plan is slightly different as the AT&T 3G model offers 250MB and 2GB worth of data access per month for $15 and $25, respectively. The Verizon model grants iPad customers 1GB of data for $20 a month.

With a de facto Apple-Verizon partnership in place, this strengthens the rumor that the iPhone will indeed fight Android's growth by making its way over to Verizon as early as the beginning of next year. But, having been down this road countless times before, the public will just have to wait and see.

As for AT&T, the ability to sell the iPad in its stores and an overconfident CEO may not be enough to stop a possible mass exodus to the larger network.

Here's an excerpt from Apple's press release:
