Via Nasa's Astronomy Picture of the Day comes this 1960s-era science film, "The Power of 10," which provides a stunning visual representation of comparative sizes in our universe. In nine minutes, the film pans out every 10 seconds to show a square of distance factored 10 times larger on each side. Feel important? Perhaps your place in the universe secure? Allow this film to put things in a broader perspective. Amazing.

Note: The narrator sounds very much like a familiar cartoon voice... something circa 1960s, but it is not. It's actually the voice of Dr. Phillip Morrison, a physicist, and founder of the Planetary Society and SETI. Morrison was also one of the youngest physicists to work on the Manhattan Project, later becoming a leading voice in post-WWII efforts to stop nuclear proliferation. (Source:IMDB)
