Alcohol is now cheaper than water in New Zealand.

“Wine cost as little as 62 NZ cents a standard drink, compared with 67 cents for 250ml of bottled water and 43 cents for the equivalent amount of milk,” according to News.co.au.

When asked for comment, Mitchell Hall, Minyanville’s Deputy Editor and the only New Zealander I know, noted:

“Are you taking the piss? Oh bro, get off the grass and gizza break. It may sound a bit dodgy, bit it just means we’re finally getting a fair suck of the sav. Pissups are our national sport and we’re a nation of professional scullers (not to mention chunderers…) One day you’ll rattle ya dags and suss out how sweet-as it is in Aotearoa.”

Hall added: "Sweetas."

The price fluctuation is a result of a grape glut in New Zealand that has driven down the price of wine.

The news has some health advocates on alert. New Zealand has seen an uptick in binge drinking, and the cheap alcohol could make the problem worse.

It should be noted, however, that New Zealand isn’t the first place in the world where alcohol is cheaper than bottled water.

Turns out, it can be cheaper in NYC, too.

Downstairs, Fiji Water is going for $3.98 a liter, or about 11.7 cents an ounce.

A 40 of Bud?

$3.95, or about 11.6 cents an ounce!

Sorry, New Zealand, but we gots ya beat.
